Melissa Milburn is a strategic communications executive whose experience spans the full scope of cutting-edge communications. She has an extensive background in communications strategy, public relations, media relations, crisis communications planning, community relations, digital strategy, public affairs, and television news broadcasting. Melissa has worked with the world's top-tier media and with developing social network channels.
For the past six years, Melissa has led the cross-foundation media relations strategy for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and coordinated media activities in the United States, the United Kingdom, India, and China. She managed foundation messaging, leadership platform development, and implementation for co-founders Bill and Melinda Gates, CEO Jeff Raikes, and the management team.
Prior to the Gates Foundation, Melissa served as a communications consultant to privately held global companies and organizations for marketing communications, crisis communications, corporate positioning, and media relations strategy.
Before launching her own consulting firm, Melissa built the technology public relations practice for APCO Worldwide. As vice president, she provided strategic counsel, corporate positioning, media training, crisis communications, and media/analyst relations for a wide range of private and publicly held clients.
Prior to APCO Worldwide, Melissa worked with Waggener Edstrom, one of the world's largest strategic communications firms, which serves as Microsoft's agency of record.
Melissa's 12 years of television broadcasting experience includes anchoring, producing, reporting, writing, and editing. She holds a BA in Communications from the University of Washington and a Certificate in Public Relations for post-graduate work. She has won numerous awards for her work, including two Emmy Awards from the NATAS and a Totem Award from the PRSA.
