Scott Milburn is an entrepreneurial senior executive and consultant for technology companies. He has 30 years' experience in business, law, technology, and finance. Scott has spent the last 12 years as an executive and consultant who integrates a broad range of skills and experience for early-stage and growth companies. His business experience was preceded by 18 years of full-time law practice serving a wide variety of clients.
Scott assists clients with corporate strategy, market identification, strategic alliance efforts, business development efforts, operations strategy, and legal matters. This includes both working with clients on the planning and operations side as well as working on behalf of clients in developing markets and dealing directly with prospective customers and partners.
Prior to his current consulting practice, Scott was COO and general counsel of QL2 Software Inc., where he managed operations in 16-month turnaround at a 160+ person technology company that led from significant operating losses to profitability within 12 months. Scott oversaw finance, HR, IT, real estate, international operations, biz dev, and all legal matters, and he restructured the sales process and pricing to achieve up to 3.5x higher average contract value.
For the several years before QL2, Scott consulted to companies in the cleantech and other energy technology sectors. He assisted companies that have developed technologies to enhance the efficiency of a building's environmental systems; provide high speed, efficient charging of batteries; process logistical fuels for use in fuel cells; expand the practicality of green roofs; and efficiently manage hotel room HVAC systems.
Scott spent the previous three years deeply enmeshed in the world of homeland security, as head of Business Development at Reality Response, where he built from scratch an extensive network of relationships among federal, state, and local homeland security officials in D.C. and California, leading toward a statewide virtual-reality training program.
Scott was previously a founder of Convergent Technology Group Inc., where he was managing director. Prior to that, Scott served as vice president of International Business Development of Webforia Inc. and managing director of the Webforia Partners Inc. venture fund. Prior to Webforia, he was vice president of Business Development and Operations at AdRelevance Inc.
Scott came to AdRelevance from his partnership at the Preston Gates & Ellis LLP (now K|L Gates) law firm. His 18-year legal career began as a trial attorney in the United States Department of Justice, Tax Division. Scott earned his JD from the T.C. Williams School of Law, University of Richmond. He earned his BA in Psychology from the University of Virginia.
