Avery Chernin was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California, where he grew up playing tennis. At 16, he began working behind the front desk of his local tennis club; the following year, after reading a book about systematizing small businesses, he pitched himself to management as a consultant and was contracted to produce an operations manual. The document he produced is still in use today.
At 18, Avery began attending Occidental College, where he studied Cognitive Science and Philosophy and competed on the varsity men's tennis team. The summer after his sophomore year, while working as a summer intern for the natural-supplement company Accelerated Intelligence, Avery got the product line into a grocery store chain, designed and facilitated a focus group, created a website for one of the product SKUs, interviewed new employee candidates, and sourced a variety of products and ingredients. He then transferred to USC to study Business Administration, with an emphasis on Marketing and Entrepreneurship. He currently works as the personal assistant for the chairman of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, Bibop Gresta.
