Evolution is the most successful design and creation process on the planet. For those involved in technology products, this realization provides a perfect classroom experience.
To maximize this learning process, there are four basic steps: understanding evolution, both in its design and creation phases, and then integrating both of these into your own work.
Contrary to the sound of these terms, the results are likely anything but incremental. Some of the most exciting chip design work done in decades was achieved using an evolutionary approach with computer simulations, rather than tasking bright young engineers with using what they had just learned in school.
But before we go further, we need to expand on our understanding of evolution, so that we may learn its lessons more clearly.
