Publisher's Note: This week our members again have the chance to benefit from the inside knowledge of India's affairs that Stanford University's Rafiq Dossani brings to our understanding of this emerging economy. As a longtime member and India Editor at SNS - and as someone who has had a personal hand in the crafting of many of the nation's investment and telecoms laws - Rafiq's views are a wonderful mix of academic research with on-the-ground experience. As global investors look around the world for new places to invest - and as China begins to look less attractive - India is one of the obvious places to turn next. Before one does, however, I'd suggest reading this week's letter. Rafiq has unearthed a concerning trend that may put that move on hold for a few more years. Since these are exactly the trends that have long-term effects on company creation and economic growth, this issue will no doubt be of equal interest to technology and finance executives needing to properly assess India's near-term future growth prospects. - mra.
