National Security

I recently had the opportunity to listen and talk with many of the national leaders in defense, intelligence, and security, from the US and several of its key allies and opponents. These meetings and discussions brought out their current key interests and concerns. Perhaps top among these was the gap between the technology industry and the national security establishment. Not surprisingly, almost no tech companies were in attendance.

There was strong agreement among most of these officials that US national security interests today fall into three main arenas:

  1. The Middle East: ISIS / ISIL, Iraq, Iran, and, further down the list, Afghanistan;
  2. Russia and its more aggressive, expansionist activities; and
  3. China.
