A Gathering of Substance

I've been to my share of tech conferences over the years.  Almost inevitably, I find myself looking for who will be there, rather than what they will be talking about.  After all, the "who" is the sexy thing, right?  Steve Jobs, or Elon Musk, or -

I believe FiRe has now hosted Elon Musk on seven different years, but this wasn't because he was a big name at the time; quite the contrary. It was partly because, at least in the early years, he was already doing great things, and - more important - was clearly going to do much more.

That worked out.

Today, the world is littered with "Rolodex conferences." And the other reason I don't look to see what folks will be talking about? Because I almost never learn anything new, no matter who's speaking. Sure, I'm well-read in tech, but really --- We call these meetings "content-free."

And that is exactly what makes the Future in Review conference different, and why we started FiRe 13 years ago. The formula was deceptively simple: convert the art and science of accurate predictions into an agenda, finding the subjects and people most likely to "win out" - to become real and dominate the industry.

Later, we added one more dimension: if the above works, why not push the envelope and take these technologies, ideas, and people, and work with them to make new things happen, or make good and smart things happen much faster?

FiRe isn't just all about substance; it is only about substance.
