Publisher's Note: It wasn't long ago that almost no one in the technology community appeared on major philanthropic donor lists, from Silicon Valley to New York. Today, every company is a technology company, in several different ways, and almost every company is moving upward in its philanthropy.

This fits well with the ethos of the millennial generation, a large fraction of whom are motivated to both give and participate, in person and online, in making the world a better place.

At a time of all this new activity, there are reasons to apply some important learnings about what works and what does not, and why, in this sharing of time, money, and resources. Perhaps most important of all, as we find new ways of using philanthropic programs to bridge the many gaps in today's societies, corporate leaders find themselves playing an increasingly important role in the community.

This week's discussion is a terrific proof case for this work, by a company and leader that have deep and sustained experience in getting this right. - mra.
