Ben Smith
Director of Program Management, Windows Embedded, Microsoft
Ben Smith is the director of Program Management for Windows Embedded, Microsoft, and is currently focused on reimagining, reinventing, and creating the next generation of embedded computing in the emerging world of highly connected devices, cloud computing, and breakthrough Natural User Interface experiences.
Previously, Ben led Program Management for Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE. In the past four years, his teams have envisioned, built, and launched industry-changing innovations in video-game and livingroom entertainment, including New Xbox Experience, Netflix on Xbox 360, and most notably, in 2010, Kinect for Xbox 360. They have also built a thriving digital distribution and e-commerce system for Xbox LIVE.
Before arriving at Xbox in 2006, Ben spent four years as a product manager in Trustworthy Computing. He is the author of two books, Microsoft Windows Security Resource Kit (1st and 2nd editions) and Assessing Network Security, both from Microsoft Press. He started his career at Microsoft Corp. in 2001 working in Training and Certification.
Ben is a returned Peace Corps Volunteer who served in Mauritania after graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He lives in the Seattle area with his wife and their two daughters.
