“The [Wall Street Journal] started piling up as well. Again, my online sources, including Mark Anderson, Fred Wilson, and Mark Cuban, consistently delivered more reliable analysis than what appeared regularly in the paper.” Jim Louderback, in “RIP WSJ,” on his blog at http://louderback.com.

I spent last weekend with my family in Vancouver, B.C., one of the great (and perhaps least well-known) cities of the world. We often broke into groups, and individual trips were common, day and night. With two smartphones and two iPhones among us, there was never a time when we were lost or out of contact. iPhones provided all GPS and guide services. At one point, I used my favorite voice app from Vlingo – a FiReStarter company – to locate all restaurants in a remote fishing-town-turned-tourist mecca; done. Almost without noticing, our minds merged with the phone services to make the entire experience relaxed, more adventuresome, and more successful.

My daughter was so good with her phone that we started competing to find the best restaurant reviews quickest, complete with maps and ratings. She preferred Yelp (Yahoo!), while I tend to choose a variety of sources through Google or Vlingo’s directory. I found out about Loopt just a day later, and if we had had that free app loaded on our phones, we could have watched each other on the map throughout the whole weekend.

Hold that picture.
