For those who are already familiar with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg's aggressive anti-privacy, anti-safety proclivities, there is a well-known phrase: "You are the product." This means that, while many think they are getting a free product when they download Facebook, the smart ones know that the users are themselves the product, and the only real money in the business comes from Mark selling access to them and to their data, to advertisers and others.
