These days I have almost no use for politics; I consider those who believe in Party Before Country as likely to be guilty of treason, and my younger-year dreams of public service in elected office have been replaced, in general, with a deep cynicism of corrupt lobbyists buying favors from corrupt representatives. And yes, there are a few exceptions.
So it is that, when I look at the issue of the U.S. government's move to save General Motors, I try to see it from a business and national economic perspective. I don't give a hoot about the politics of it.
Today, GM is back on track as a healthy, going concern, employing people around the world, not least in the U.S. The taxpayer funds used to save the firm will almost certainly be paid back at a profit. From a business perspective, this was an inspired and smart move on the part of the executive branch: bolstering an industry that is the core of any nation's manufacturing base.
