Building the Sensor Planet
I recently ran a panel at the Mobile Future Forward Conference on Machine to Machine wireless communications. Conference founder (and FiRe Wireless Ambassador) Chetan Sharma had picked up a quote from Ericsson indicating that we could expect up to 50B devices talking to one another by around 2020.
People have been talking about so-called M2M communications for quite a while, but it seems as though we haven't really gotten our arms around it yet. Everyone agrees it will be big, but no one knows how big. I figure that Ericsson, the largest wireless infrastructure company on the planet, probably has it pretty well calculated.
