Publisher's Note: Davis Brimer is in the somewhat enviable position of having solved a problem that most people do not yet know exists. He recognizes that "measuring touch" matters.
There is perhaps nothing simpler in the human experience, nor more connecting, than touch. As Davis says in this letter, we use touch to measure many things on a daily basis, and recruit other senses as surrogates when we have to. Touch is, in a very material (and perhaps force-field interpretation) way, the ultimate sense.
Because of this, if we can bring science (and the appropriate metrics) to the experience of touch, we will likely learn more about our own health, and our environment, and the materials that sustain us, than we could ever learn through our other senses or by our own, quite limited, sense of touch. mra.
