As our members are no doubt fully aware, Queen Elizabeth considers her most important royal contribution to have been the expansion, and rejuvenation, of the Commonwealth. For the younger among us who have never heard of Watergate, the Pentagon Papers, or Lee Harvey Oswald, the Commonwealth countries historically represented the British Empire at her pinnacle. Under Elizabeth, this has been transformed from a mercantilist connection to an alliance of countries with mutual self-interest - and, almost always, respect - that could serve as a model and inspiration to current leaders of free nations.
