Government Transitions & Disarray in the Next Six Months

By Evan Anderson

Why Read: We are entering a period in which a great many governments across the free world are in transition or disarray, presenting a "risk window" that requires awareness and action. Read on to learn about the potential political risks of the next six months and what can be done to manage them.

______

Risk comes from not knowing what you're doing. - Warren Buffet

Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security. - Mathematician John Allen Paulos

A storm has arrived at our doorstep.

The new year brings with it the specter of much change in the United States. The new administration has begun taking form and seems set to begin delivering soon on a series of promises that, if performed fully, would reshape the government, the population, the environment, human health, and countless other categories. The Trump administration's ability to deliver on these promises remains deeply in question. (Can you actually deport millions of residents without collapsing the economy?) But the intent is clear: completely shift the Overton window on policy across the board, and make drastic changes.

But while the US government has the attention of many worldwide, much is afoot elsewhere that is equally important.

We are seeing an unprecedented period of government disarray among democracies. Let's take stock of just how many (and which) governments are currently in transition or facing large-scale change and what the global implications of these periods of change may be.
