AUTOCRACY Is Killing U.S. Innovation

Over the course of the 20th century, the US innovation economy has grown on the back of a few core tenets: monetary stability;  defense capabilities to back the US dollar; universities and innovation - a federal R&D ecosystem that incubates the best ideas of the world's brightest minds; and the investment and growth that spin out and reward the efforts of entrepreneurs.

Today, none of these factors is a sure thing. Our defense capabilities, for one, have been whittled down over time by overcommitment across foreign fields and underinvestment here at home. But others of the above have been thrown into flux by shifts in this administration's funding priorities and allocations.
