Founding Principal and Strategic Creative Officer, GIRVIN | Strategic Branding & Design
Tim Girvin is the founding principal and strategic creative officer of GIRVIN | Strategic Branding & Design, the consulting group responsible for the branding of Pattern Computer Inc.
Tim started in 1976, founding his firm as a small shop for specialized printing: vehicle, vessel, and window sign-painting; shopfronts and interiors; motorcycle pin-striping; tattoos; hand-lettering; illustration; type design; and calligraphy.
Tim has worked around the world for 45 years in branding for organizations that range from motion-picture and entertainment studios to scientific brands, humanitarian organizations, and retail and consumer and packaged goods. He's worked for Disney, Paramount Studios, Universal, and Warner Brothers on hundreds of motion-picture branding assignments.
With his team-built innovation workshops (BrandQuest®), Tim has supported startups, brand development, and enterprise transitioning strategies for Duke University, Gere Foundation, Heifer International, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Seeds of Compassion, and UJA, and created new brand programs for Apple, KettleBrands, Procter&Gamble, Leviev, Millennium Retailing, Nordstrom, Tableau, and others.
Tim's education is mostly itinerant - he's traveled around the world to approach, engage, and study with masters in fine printing, sign-painting, engraving in wood and glass, paper making, type design, and calligraphy. He has studied at the Imperial College, copped a security pass into Cooper Union, and lived and studied with Lloyd Reynolds at Reed College; he graduated from the Evergreen State College.
Tim's work has been published in Brutus, BXP Magazine, Communication Arts, Exhibitor, GD|USA, Graphis, How, IDEA, NovumGebrauchsGrafik, SendenKaigi, and Print. His work is in the permanent collections at the Frye and CooperHewitt museums and the Library of Congress. He has spoken on integrated hybrid design to groups in Canada, China, Europe, Japan, Java, Korea, Mexico, Russia, the UK, and the US. His personal explorations are gathered in a journal site: Motion picture branding and Art.
